The European competitions UEFA Europa League and the new competition UEFA Europa Conference League will be available on TV 2s channels and on TV 2 PLAY from the summer of 2021.

From the summer of 2021 and three years ahead, the European football club competitions UEFA Europa League and the future competition UEFA Europa Conference League may be followed on TV 2, TV 2 SPORT and TV 2 SPORT X and via the sports package on TV 2 PLAY.

TV 2’s new, important licence of international football property is a reality shortly after the media group published its renewal of the Spanish football property, La Liga, in the years 2021-2026.

- The licence of the UEFA Europa League and UEFA Europa Conference League emphasizes TV 2’s high level of ambition in the field of sports where we want to provide significant Danish and international sports on tv and streaming. I am excited by the prospects of even more top sports on TV 2’s channels and services, says Anne Engdal Stig Christensen, CEO of TV 2.

Danish teams perform well
UEFA Europa League and the new UEFA Europa Conference League are the big European club competitions ranking below the UEFA Champions League, and it is in the UEFA Europa League that Danish teams have the chance to perform well. At the moment, FC København is qualifier for the round of 16, which has been postponed because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

- Danish clubs have performed well in the UEFA Europa League for several seasons, and I am extremely happy that Danish tv viewers and streaming users may follow the Danish teams both in the UEFA Europa League and the UEFA Europa Conference League. I have great expectations to this new property, which significantly add to TV 2’s activities in the field of football, says Frederik Lauesen, Head of Sports at TV 2.

In addition to the best Danish clubs, the UEFA Europa League and UEFA Europa Conference League will feature some of Europe’s well-know major clubs that have failed to qualify for the UEFA Champions League. This year’s UEFA Europa League competition saw, for instance, the following clubs in the group stage (and most of them have progressed from that stage): From the England Manchester United and Arsenal, from Spain Sevilla and Getafe, from Italy Roma, Inter and Lazio, from Germany Bayer Leverkusen and Mönchengladbach, from Scotland Celtic and Rangers and from the Netherlands Ajax and PSV Eindhoven.

Mostly on TV 2 SPORT, TV 2 SPORT X and TV 2 PLAY
The matches of UEFA Europa League and UEFA Europa Conference League are played on Thursday at 18.45 and 21.00, and at these times football may be seen on TV 2 SPORT, TV 2 SPORT X as well as TV 2 PLAY. Some matches may also be broadcast on TV 2’s main channel.

- When Danish teams qualify for decisive and interesting matches in the European competitions, we may – subject to a concrete assessment in each instance – broadcast such match on our main channel. And it would give us great pleasure to present a Danish team on TV 2 in a decisive match against one of the major European teams, says Frederik Lauesen.

Both UEFA Europa League and UEFA Europa Conference League, which launch on TV 2 in the summer of 2021, will include 32 teams in the future seasons for which TV 2 holds the rights.
